Celebrating Family

Family portrait sessions are one of my very favorite things to photograph, simply because of the beauty and love that are so inherently family. I feel blessed to be able to witness and capture that.

On a recent rainy Tuesday, I felt especially blessed. On vacation in Charleston from upstate South Carolina, this lovely family braved the frightful weather to journey to the beach for a portrait session. After nearly two days of torrential rainfall, I wasn’t sure it would happen. But the rain was a mere light drizzle as we arrived at the beach and did nothing to dampen the spirits of these two little girls, one of whom was seeing the Ocean for the very first time.

Capturing someone’s very first moments at the beach – I love that. She loved it. And I hope that for little Makenna, it is just the beginning of a very long love relationship with the Ccean.

Her older sister, Madisynn, has already decided that when she’s a little more “grown”, she’s moving to Charleston. She even has her house picked out downtown. (I hope it’s one of the ones with wraparound porches on all three floors!)

Madisynn is the one who chose Charleston as the family’s vacation destination, after learning about it in school last year. Earlier in the week, she had her picture taken by each house along Rainbow Row. I can definitely understand her entrancement with this city.

So much vibrancy in these two little girls! They love life, and they loved the sand and wetness of our rainy portrait session by the Ocean. Their excitement was contagious.

I think that watching a parent play with their child is one of the most beautiful sights in the world. I got to see a lot of it with this family, and it made my heart happy.

One of my goals with family portrait photography is to freeze moments in time, so that years down the road the family members – and future family members to come – can look back at the photographs and be reminded of the constancy, magic, and love of family. It is one of the few constants in life, and I love it when time is taken to value it.

Thank you for choosing Selador Images to be your Charleston Beach Portrait Photographer!

They Grow Up Fast…

I had the pleasure of photographing my two favorite little girls recently… although they’re not so little anymore!

It’s not unusual for several months to pass in-between when I am able to see them, and I’m always amazed by how much they change in such a short time.

It’s been a wonder to watch these two grow from tiny button-nosed babies to the “almost” women that they are now.

They are beautifully photogenic, and made even more so by the sweetness that radiates from the inside out. I am proud to be able to call them my sisters!

Engagement Portraits

As a Charleston Engagement Portrait Photographer, I am always on the lookout for magical places to shoot engagement sessions. This Pineapple Fountain is located in the middle of one of my favorite spots — Waterfront Park. It is situated conveniently in the middle of so many portrait-worthy spots: a pier overlooking the marsh, bay, and Ravenel bridge, cobblestone streets with vine-ridden brick walls, benches tucked away in cozy nooks… and, of course, the Pineapple itself!
