Wedding of the Year

Every wedding is as unique and special as the bride and groom being “wedded”, but I have to say that this recent wedding –and the blissfully happy bride and groom – was the most special one that I have had the privilege of photographing since venturing into the world of wedding photography. Why? Well, let me show you.

Meet my brother and his beautiful bride.

They are two of the most unique individuals I have ever met. They are both mechanical engineers so their brains, needless to say, work in an entirely different way than my own, which is a creative labyrinth of chaos. But the factors of their uniqueness extend far beyond that (although the engineer factor never ceases to amaze me…) My brother is one of the most calm, kind, and considerate men that I have ever known.  He was a craftsman and a dreamer from day one, and always has some new project or idea formulating in that brain of his. He excels at anything he has ever tried his hand at and, in addition to being a highly skilled craftsmen, is a talented musician and artist. But beyond all of that, he is caring. He values life and lives, and I know that his bride will be cherished –and know it– for the rest of time. I have never witnessed him put his own wants or desires above those of anyone else, and I know that his marriage will be no different. I have always known that he deserved someone extra special, and my new sister-in-law is the only one I have ever met who fit the bill. A perfect blend of sweet and adventurous, intelligent and witty, loving and hardworking, they go together like nutella and swiss cheese (one of the best combinations in the food world, in my opinion).  I also have to mention that she is a ridiculously amazing cook… highly unfortunate that there are over 800 miles between me and her kitchen! I love these two and I loved their day. Just writing about it makes me nostalgic… wish I could relive the whole day again.

Tucked away in a little corner of Indiana amidst all the cornfields, Amish buggies, and wide open space lies the little town of Nappanee, and it is about as different a world from Charleston as one could imagine. Sturdy oaks and maples instead of palms, sprawling wheat fields instead of marsh. On September 10, 2011, two hearts were joined as one in a church in-between the wheat, the oaks, and the maples.

One of my favorite wedding happenings is when the bride and groom have a special, private moment before the ceremony. The “first glimpse”, as I like to call it, is a moment of absolute magic as the groom sees his bride in all her glory for the first time. I could try to describe the wonder of my brother and his bride’s “first glimpse”, but I’ll show you instead.

That’s magic, folks…

The whole day was nothing but fun… the bride and groom’s radiant happiness was absolutely contagious. Sometimes things are so “right” that it makes the whole world seem a brighter and better place just to witness it.

I can only imagine the wonderful life that they will dream and build together (they are, after all, engineers).

I feel so lucky to have been able to capture this magically special time for them, and I know without a shadow of a doubt that their fairy tale truly will end with a happily ever after.

Congratulations Paul and Kara!
